Gulf of Poets

From Le Grazie to Portovenere, among islands and bays: the gulf that enchanted the poets, to be lived slowly at the water’s edge.

First stop

The gulf of poets and sailors

We set sail from Le Grazie or La Spezia, and within minutes the gulf that enchanted Byron and Shelley opens before the bow. We sail beneath the walls of Portovenere, with the Church of San Pietro perched over the water and pastel-colored alleys running down to the harbor.

Then the three islands — Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto — among caves, cliffs and coves reachable only by sea, with swim stops in the most beautiful bays.

Church of San Pietro

The Gothic church on the rocky spur, symbol of Portovenere.

Byron’s Grotto

Deep waters and sheer cliffs, beloved by the English poet.

Palmaria Island

The largest of the three islands, right across from the village.

Tino and Tinetto

Wild, protected islands, with the lighthouse and monastery ruins.

Swim stops

In the most beautiful bays of the gulf, where the water is crystal-clear.
